  • MISSION STATEMENT

    The mission of the Texas Tech Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Business Office is to provide accurate and complete financial accounting and business services and information to its customers.

    VISION STATEMENT

    The Athletics Business Office will be recognized, by external and internal customers, for its excellence in providing reliable and timely business services.

    The Athletic Business Office is committed to the values of

    Goal 1: Business and Accounting Services: Provide reliable and timely business services and information.

    Critical Success Factors (measures of the degree of success over the next 5 years):

    • Monthly Budget Status Reports to Head Coaches and Department Heads.
    • Complete National Collegiate Athletics Association audit each year.
    • Complete all necessary National Collegiate Athletics Association and/or other external financial reports.
    Objectives:

    Objective 1.1: Provide all necessary internal and external financial reports.

    Strategies:

    • Compile all necessary information for Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act Report.
    • Research National Collegiate Athletic Association Audit.
    • Budget Status Reports completed.
    • Complete all other internal and external reports.
    Assessment:
    • Number of internal and external Reports completed by requested date.
    Objective 1.2: Enhance the Department's reputation for fiscal responsibility.

    Strategies:

    • Make all disbursements on time pursuant to billing invoices.
    • Collect all cash receipts by contract dates.
    • Provide complete and accurate financial formation to media and other sources.
    Assessments:
    • Percentage of disbursements made by deadline.
    • Average rate of cash receipts collected.
    • Number of positive financial articles written in newspapers.
    • Number of positive financial features on electronic media.
    Objective 1.3: Assist departmental staff in complying with Athletics Department, University, and the National Collegiate Athletics Association Policies.

    Strategies:

    • Distribute business related policies and procedures to Athletics Staff.
    • Enforce all Athletics Department and University Policies.
    Assessments:
    • Business related policies and procedures distributed to Athletics Staff.
    • Documentation and notification of violation of policies.
    Goal 2: Partnerships: Build strategic partnerships and relationships.

    Critical Success Factors (measures of the degree of success over the next 5 years):

    • Maintain quality relationships and good standing with Athletics Department Staff.
    • Maintain quality relationships and good standing with University Officials.
    • Maintain quality relationships and good standing with external groups.
    Objectives:

    Objective 2.1: Establish strong ties within the Department and the University.

    Strategies:

    • Provide timely and efficient Business Services to Departmental Staff.
    • Survey Athletics Department Staff for suggestions for improving Business Services.
    • Provide accurate and complete financial information to University Officers.
    Assessments:
    • Results of Departmental Survey.
    • Number of suggestions considered and implemented.
    • Number of requests for financial information
    Objective 2.2: Enhance the Department's reputation for accountability, both internally and externally.

    Strategies:

    • Provide complete and accurate financial information to University Departments and to Athletics personnel.
    • Comply with University policies.
    Assessment:
    • Strengthen working relations with other University Departments.
    Objective 2.3: Establish strong relationships with other universities. Strategies:
    • Share financial information with other Universities
    Assessments:
    • Number of surveys and requests filled.
    • Amount of information returned back.
    Goal 3: Technology: Maximize the use of technology in providing services and information.

    Critical Success Factors (measures of the degree of success over the next 5 years):

    • Upgrade accounting software.
    • Upgrade and maintain state-of-the-art computer technology.
    Objectives:

    Objective 3.1: Obtain and provide all necessary equipment and technology.

    Strategies:

    • Upgrade technology.
    • Increase number of workstations.
    • Match Athletics Department software to University software.
    Assessments:
    • Number of workstations.
    • List technology upgrades.
    Objective 3.2: Increase staff access to financial information.

    Strategies:

    • Develop plan to add Paciolan Systems software to other Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff.
    • Create list serve groups for needed financial information.
    Assessments:
    • Number of staff with access to Paciolan.
    • Number of staff actively using Paciolan.
    • Number of listserve groups and users.
